WHAT DOES 'HEALTHY' MEAN TO YOU?

Something I feel eternally grateful for, having studied Nutrition, is gaining an understanding of just how extraordinarily clever our bodies truly are. The number of pathways and processes happening behind the scenes every single second is mind‑blowing, all of them working to support and protect us.

This is why I find it so frustrating to see the glamorisation of lifestyles curated purely for aesthetic purposes, which completely neglect our biological needs. Many people are confusing health with thinness, and instead of nourishing themselves for longevity, resilience, and joy, they’re being swept up in the false belief that health only exists at one size.

Having worked with many individuals who have pursued thinness, only to find that it created a disordered relationship with food, disrupted hormonal function, poor immune health, irregular or absent menstrual cycles, low mood, anxiety, social isolation, and malnutrition, I do feel the need to gently remind us that being thinner does not equate to being healthier.

The weight at which your body functions optimally may not be the smallest version of you, and the most compassionate thing you can do is work with your body, not against it. True health looks like nourishing yourself with delicious food, having the energy to move in ways that feel enjoyable, being able to fight off illness, having the capacity to build meaningful connections, and having the mental resilience to navigate the inevitable challenges life brings.

It’s easy to forget that how we treat our bodies now sets the blueprint for how we will age. I say this not to scare you, but to empower you to make decisions your future self will thank you for. This is the beauty of viewing your health as a long‑term investment: there are no dieting deadlines to meet, no need for drastic overhauls. Instead, you can reap the rewards of the compounding effects of small yet significant habits built over time.

Adding a couple of portions of veggies to your dinner, drinking that extra glass of water, sprinkling seeds on your breaky, chucking a tin of lentils into your favourite lasagne recipe, packing a jar of mixed nuts to snack on, always fuelling your workouts, putting your phone away an hour before bedtime, taking a few moments each morning to check in with how you’re feeling, carving out time to spend with loved ones, investing in your friendships, popping out for a 10‑minute walk on your lunch break, finding movement you genuinely enjoy.

None of these things promise overnight results, and in a society driven by instant gratification, it’s no wonder this information isn’t making headlines or trending on social media. We’re all desperate for that silver‑bullet fix: a singular pill, supplement, injection, gadget, or treatment that will magically transform our health and how we feel about ourselves.

The truth? That simply does not exist. Rather than investing your time, energy, and money into searching for it, why not give yourself permission to think long‑term: to place more emphasis on how you feel in your body, rather than obsessing over how you look from the outside.

If you’re struggling to navigate the confusion of the wellness world, I’m here to help! Before working with clients, I offer a no-obligation discovery call as an opportunity for us to get to know one another, and to hold space for you to share where you’re currently at with your health and how I may be able to support you moving forwards.
